Edmund H. de Mattia, Sr., 99, died peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Joseph's Living Center in Windham, CT. He was the husband of Ethel (Beebe) de Mattia who predeceased him. Born in Waterbury on January 29, 1913, he was the son of Hector and Elizabeth (Spadola) de Mattia. He graduated from Crosby High, attended Washington College in Chestertown, MD, and earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Connecticut. He worked for many years as an economist for the State Development Commission. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Mensa, and for many years, the Mansfield Senior Center. He was an amateur oil painter, composer, poet, dry-fly fisherman and surfcaster. He is survivedby his children; his son Edmund H. de Mattia, Jr.; his daughter Elizabeth Acimovic and her husband Karl; his daughter Constance Potter; and his grandchildren, Liesse Potter; Andrew Potter, his wife Claudia and their son, Jack; Alexander Acimovic and his wife Mee Kyoung; and Philip Acimovic. Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic with a service to follow at 11:00. Burial will be at the Storrs Cemetery in Storrs.
