Edmond F. Woodward, 87, of Windham, died Tuesday May 11, 2004 at the Windham Hospital. He was born June 23, 1916 in Ashford the son of Henry R. and Eva (Hobby) Woodward. He is survived by his wife Eileen (Swanson) Woodward whom he married on Sept. 8, 1946. He is also survived by 3 children; Mark Woodward and his wife Susan of Scarsdale, N.Y., Janet Woodward of Windham and Patricia Woodward and her husband Mark Sharp of Warrenton, VA., 5 grandchildren; Sarah and Katie Woodward and Matthew, Grace and William Sharp and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 siblings; Alice Bombria, Royal Woodward and John Woodward. He always enjoyed his family and appreciated all of them. Edmond was drafted in Oct. 1941 and served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and 10 days, 10 months of which were in the European Theater of operations during World War II. He was discharged in Oct. 1945. He was a graduate of Windham High School class of 1933 and graduated from Trinity College in 1947. In 1950 he graduated from the University of CT. School of Law and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in July 1950. Attorney Woodward practiced law in the town of Windham for 50 years and served as municipal attorney for several area towns. He was a member and past president of the Windham County Bar Assoc., a member of the CT. Bar Assoc. and a former member of the Windham Republican Town Committee. Right after graduating from law school, he bought an operating dairy farm in the town of Windham. He was an active farmer for a number of years while also practicing law. He never regretted his decision to study law and soon devoted all of his time to his practice. Edmond was a 65 year member of Echo Grange #180 in Mansfield Center. Having a strong faith in God, he had and active involvement with the Scotland Congregational Church. He was enthusiastic about languages and especially the classical languages of Latin and Greek. He had the utmost respect for the Greek philosophers. The derivation of words always fascinated him. He had an intense interest in world history and recognized the importance of knowledge of history. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00pm. His funeral service will be held on SATURDAY at 1:00pm at the funeral home, with burial following in the Storrs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Scotland Congregational Church, Scotland, Ct. 06264 or to the Windham Hospital Emergency Dept.
