Edith K. Doucette

Edith K. Doucette, 89 of North Windham, CT passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025. Born on January 24, 1936, in Newcastle, Wyoming, she was the daughter of the late Orvie and Rachel (Chamberlin) Miner. Edith was the beloved wife of the late James E. Doucette Sr.

Edith was a loving mother to James E. Doucette Jr. and Eugene (Gene) Doucette and a cherished grandmother to James E. Doucette III (Jimmy), Stephanie Doucette, Camille Doucette-Bentti, and Jacqueline Doucette, a great grandmother to Ella Bentti, Lillian Harris, twins Artemis and Aristotle Doucette-Bajeres, and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Edith was predeceased by her five brothers, OJ Miner, Chaucey Miner, Leslie Miner, Dale Miner, and Charlies Miner, and four sisters, Opel Nelson, Bessie Hubbard, Vernice Lee, and Thelma Scruggs.

After meeting who would become her beloved husband James, Edith and James Sr. enjoyed Roller Skate Dancing together, even winning some Competitions. In her earlier years, Edith had many pets but the ones she loved to talk about the most were Jiggs, the dog who she loved and the Black Bear cub that she nursed back to health after being shot in the paws by a hunter. Which later went back to the wild but came back to visit once in a while leaving his deformed paw print on the property so she would know he was there. Edith was a highly skilled seamstress by trade working for Tubridy’s women clothing store in Willimantic, CT. She also sewed out of her house for many years, making at least two wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses as well. One summer at the Rose Arts Festival in Norwich, CT she even mended two suit jackets for the amazing country singer, Kenny Rogers and was his guest at the next evening show. In her leisure time, she also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, creating beautiful gifts and award -winning works of art. She was also known as a wonderful cook and baker, famous for her amazing dark brown sugar pumpkin pies. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing her talents for arts and crafts by teaching them to make Christmas ornaments and braided jewelry and many other crafts.

Edith had an adventurous spirit and always dreamed of trying hang gliding, though she never had the opportunity. She also made numerous family trips by car from Connecticut to Maryland and from Connecticut to Washington state with her children and grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be on Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Cemetery with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers please donate to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her honor. Edith loved the work of St. Jude Children’s Hospital very much.
