Douglas Daring, 84, of Manchester, CT passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Douglas' wife Barbara predeceased him last March. He is survived by his sons Gordon of Manchester and Brian of New Britain, and two grandsons Eric and Robert. Douglas was employed as a machinist for General Electric while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany. Upon graduation, he was employed as a physics teacher in Greece, NY. During that time, he received a National Science Foundation grant to further his studies. He moved to Connecticut in 1966 and was employed as a recruiter for United Technologies, until he became the Director for the Office of Career Planning at UConn, a position he held until he retired. Douglas was an accomplished woodworker and furniture maker. He and Barbara travelled extensively throughout their life - then in their later years, on a quest to visit every lighthouse on the U.S. East Coast. The family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. in Willimantic, CT on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 11:00am until 1:00pm.
