Dot Davis Obituary
Dot Davis born June 21,1936 to John R and Hazel E Sullivan passed peacefully in her sleep, June 4, 2024.  She is predeceased by her dear friend of several decades, Jerry Anderson, her sisters, Peggy Martin & Rita Higgins, brother-in-law, SK Martin, niece, Susie T Scotti and nephew, David Martin. Left to honor her memory are her daughters; Darlene Haddad (Pete), Roxanne Hosking (David), Dawn Davis (Kevin LaMontagne, dec.), Donna Brandon (Dale), Grandchildren; Dustin and Jennifer Haddad, Heather, Julie, and Kelly Holden, Steevenson Mady, and Andrew Brandon;

Five great grandchildren, Amelia, Olivia, Cora, Cameron, Holden many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ in 1936, Dot relocated as a young teen to Columbia, CT.  Eventually she married and briefly moved to Altas Oklahoma then returned to Columbia where she raised her four beloved girls making a name for herself as loyal friend and eager volunteer for a multitude of civic and charitable organizations: AMC (Apalachia Mountain Club), Sierra Club, Friends of Mansfield Hollow, Hartford, Stage, Meals on Wheels, Women’s Center of New London, Columbia Historical Society, and Food Share.

In addition to Dot’s volunteer activities, as avid lover of music, she was a member of both the Lebanon Community Chorus (Historian) and Capella Cantorum, of Deep River, CT.  With the Capella group Dot enjoyed many adventures in Europe and Asia singing in Cathedrals, Chapels, and many pubs throughout Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, and Ice bars in Finland.  Dot even debuted her talents with this group at Carnegie Hall, NYC.

Dot prided herself on her career at SNET, aka, Ma Bell.   Whether she was picketing for better treatment of her co-workers as a union representative up to and during the strike of the early 70s or trailblazing for women to take on higher paid positions that were reserved for only men Dot embodied the women’s liberation movement of the time.  Having to support her four daughters it was important for Dot to impart the desire for equality in the home, workplace, and society as a whole, for all women. She was honored to be a member of the AT&T Pioneer group.

Dot has left a legacy of speaking up and speaking out for those less fortunate than herself.  When she could not give money, she gave of her time and energy to a variety of causes and enrichment for her community and will be missed by all who knew her.

Dot was fiercely opposed to the banning of literature in any form.  We encourage donations to the Saxon B. Little Library in Columbia, CT to further ALL genres of literature for ALL patrons.
