Dorothy B. Tomecko, 83, of Storrs, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 surrounded by her family after a long battle with vascular dementia. Born June 22, 1927 in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Dimock of Gurleyville, CT and the grand niece of the late Honorable Wilbur Cross, governor of the State of Connecticut during the 1940's. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Dorothy was an administrative assistant there before her marriage in 1947 to George W. Tomecko Sr. They built their home in Storrs and have lived there for 56 years. She had the most beautiful smile and tender, gentle heart and her family was the most important thing in her world. Besides her husband of 63 years, Dorothy leaves her sister, Constance L. Dimock of Trumbull, CT, three children, Patricia Lee Gembala (Edwin) of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, George William Tomecko Jr. (Kathleen) of Miami, Florida and Constance L. Tomecko of Willington, CT; also three grandchildren, David (Shannon) Tomecko of Irving, Texas, Allen (Andrea) Tomecko of Natchez, Mississippi and Stephen William Tomecko of Miami, Florida and four great grandchildren, BreeAnna Lynn, Georgia Rose, Bette Blair and Revin Adrianna Tomecko, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Risley Dimock and an infant grandchild, Timothy Arthur Tomecko. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Community Companions and Homemakers, Visiting Angels and Home Instead for their support and loving care of Dorothy during her illness as well as the nursing staff of Greer 2nd floor at Windham Community Hospital for their compassion and support during her final days. Her family will receive friends and relatives on Friday December 10, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Rte. 195, Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 64 Pompey Hollow Rd. Ashford. Burial will follow in the Storrs Cemetery. Please visit
