Dorothy J. Thompson, 86, of Long Hill Rd.,Andover, wife of J. Russell Thompson, died Wednesday Sept. 4, 2002 at home. She was born Oct. 27, 1915 in Willimantic the daughter of Walter T. and Minnie (Snow) Jones. She was a 1933 graduate of Windham High School. Dorothy had been employed as the secretary to the Director of Nursing at the Windham Hospital for several years prior to her retirement. She was a longtime member of the Windham Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Climax Chapter O.E.S., the Andover Historical Society, a charter member of the Andover Fire Dept. Auxiliary and also participated in many other civic and school activities. Dorothy was a member of the Andover Congregational Church since 1938. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 3 children; Richard W. Thompson and his wife Rebecca of Harpswell, ME., Beverly J. Ganley and her husband John T. of Milford, N.J. and James R. Thompson Jr. and his wife Karen of Columbia. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Joanne Thompson of Hamden, William Thompson of CO., John Ganley Jr. of N.J., Ailene Nash of Ohio and Ashley and Jordan Thompson of Columbia, several nieces and nephews and a sister in law Marjorie Jones of Columbia. She was predeceased by a brother Thomas C. Jones. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by a funeral home service at 11:00am. Burial will take place in the Townsend Cemetery, Andover. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Andover Congregational Church, Andover, Ct. 06232.
