Dorothy Jane Picard

Dorothy Jane (Brooks) Picard, of Columbia, was born on Christmas Day 1934 to Theodore and Elizabeth Brooks. She passed from this earth on February 20, 2011. She leaves behind a loving family and numerous friends. Dorothy attended Rocky Hill schools where she grew up and kept in touch with several of her classmates. Dorothy was an entrepreneur and was most recognized for having sold Avon for over twenty five years, earning several presidents' club awards. She had been active with St. Columba's women's auxiliary for several years. Mom's house was the hang out house where she was quick to counsel, offer a hug, cook up a meal, or just listen. She leaves her beloved husband of fifty years Patrick Picard of Columbia and their six children Regina Picard and her husband David Carl, Ann Mansfeld and her husband Paul, Theodore Picard, Judith Picard, Andrew Picard and his fiancAC.e Renee Renberg, Daniel Picard and his fiancAC.e Rene Dupis-McPherson. Her eight grandchildren Richard and Andrew Case, Samantha Casey, Alexander and Kaydi Picard, Yvonne Picard, Caroline and Christine Mansfeld and her two great granddaughters Abigail and Elizabeth Case; her brother Robert Brooks, his wife June, several nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and "adopted" children. She also leaves her beloved cat Peaches. The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to the staff at Crestfield for your extraordinary care and dedication to Dot's care; she was very fond of you all. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department, St. Columba Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Her family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, February 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. A memorial mass will be held at St. Columba Church, Columbia on Saturday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
