Dorothy Overbaugh

Dorothy (Pearl) Overbaugh, died Friday November 30, 2001 at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn after a long illness. She was born in Hampton on October 12, 1908 to the late William and Mabel Pearl. She was the wife or Earl H. Overbaugh who died in 1983. Following their marriage in 1929 they lived in the Waterbury area until his retirement in 1963 at which time they moved to Hampton. Mrs. Overbaugh graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic in 1925 and from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in New Haven in 1928. After getting married, she did not work outside the home until 1944 when, as a volunteer, she aided the victims of the Ringling Brothers Circus fire in Hartford. Resuming her career as a registered nurse, she worked at the Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury from 1944 until 1963, and at the American Thread Co. in Willimantic from 1963 until her retirement in 1974. Active in church and community affairs she was, among other things, a member of the Hampton Congregational Church and the Hampton Antiquarian Historical Society. She was also a volunteer at the Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic. She is survived by 2 children, Robert E.. Overbaugh of Westford, MA, and Dorothy O. VanderMeulen of Brattleboro, VT, 2 sisters, Beatrice Thayer formerly of Newington and Eleanor Moon of Hampton, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hampton Congregational Church, Main St. Hampton. Private graveside services will be held in the North Cemetery, Hampton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Hampton Congregational Church, Main St. Hampton, CT 06247.
