Doris Surridge, 92, of Willimantic, wife of Frederick Surridge, died Thursday April 30, 2015 at Emeritus at Mountain Laurel in Glastonbury. She was born June 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Harold and Ethel (Morse) Phillips. She graduated from Windham High School & hair dressing school in Hartford. When Doris completed her schooling she worked in Willimantic as a beautician. Doris volunteered for many years at Windham Hospital. She was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of Willimantic back as far as 1939. From the writings of her diary, she would attend choir practice on Saturdays and go to church and sing on Sunday. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Linda and her husband Gene Young, Stephen and his wife Linda, Allen Surridge, Harry Surridge, Diane and her husband Jim Peterson; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Doris is predeceased by her sister, Bobbie Brown and brother Austin Phillips. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
