Doris Beatriz Marques, aged 86, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Linda McCalvin, her granddaughter Katie Ventriglia, her great granddaughter Sophia Ventriglia, all of Houston TX, and her son Gary Kazmer, of North Windham CT. Doris was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she lived for 20 years before coming to the U.S. She was very independent and self-sufficient, supporting her two children by herself following a divorce. She and her family lived in many areas of the U.S., including Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas, New Mexico and eventually Connecticut, even living in Montreal for five years though her Brazilian heritage did not agree very much with the climate. She loved to talk about her unique and varied experiences and thoroughly enjoyed conversing with friends about ideas she found interesting. Though health problems in her later years hampered her activities, she always enjoyed conversations with those that came to see her. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to friends and health care providers that made her last days as comfortable as possible. Given Doris' interest in Native Americans and their culture, in lieu of flowers consider a donation in her memory to a charity she strongly supported, the American Indian College Fund which may be accessed directly through
