Donald L. Thompson, 77, of Uncasville, husband of Franziska (Wagner) Thompson, died Wednesday August 3, 2005 at the W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. He was born June 12, 1928 in Willimantic. Mr. Thompson joined the Army at the age of 19 in 1947, served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired October 30, 1969, receiving the Bronze Star Medal May 28, 1969. He began work at the New London Post Office in 1970, retiring in 1992. He was a member of TREA, the retired enlisted association, the Retired Armed Forces Association, the NCO Open Mess of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was also an honorary and lifetime member of the Fleur de Lys Masonic Lodge #61 in Poitiers Vienne France, a life member of the Fin Fur and Feather Club of Chaplin, the Elks, the Montville Senior Citizens and the Groton Bowl Seniors. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 children, Gilbert Thompson and his wife Laurie of Marlborough, Francies Harmon and her husband Douglas of Salem, 4 grandchildren, Kim Harmon, Robert Harmon, Matthew Thompson and Todd Thompson, 3 great granddaughters, Makayla DeSantis, Jenaia and Athena Harmon, 2 brothers, Robert Thompson of Tucson, AZ and William Reeves of upstate New York. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Burial with military honors will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery.
