Donald Francis Morrissette of Storrs, transitioned peacefully on Veterans Day, November 11, 2012 at 89 years of age. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Constance (Lowell) Morrissette; his son Theodore Morrissette and his wife Melanie; his daughter Leslie Mullen and her husband Barry; and his daughter Karen Southwick and her partner Scott; his grandchildren; Torin , Jessie, Nikki, Ashley, Courtney, Tyler, Katelin, Brendan, Riley, Tommy and Lisa and a great grandson Kealahn. He will also be missed by his brother in law, Walter A. Lowell and his wife Betty and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Willimantic, Donald was the loving son of Theodore Victor and Mary Loretta Morrissette. Donald was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 during the Five Theaters of Operations (Pacific, Atlantic, Eastern, Western, and African). His family was often entertained by the many stories of his exploits overseas as Donald had an amazing sense of humor and could always find the good in a bad situation. Donald retired from Seaboard Plywood and Lumber and worked at numerous lumberyards until he was 82 years old. Many will remember him for his pipes and cigars in his younger years. Donald was an avid golfer, loved watching UCONN sports and bringing his grandchildren to the UCONN Dairy Bar and barns. Donald will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched, by his amazing spirit and jokes. He often joked about reading the obituaries to see if his name was there, and now his family hopes that by finally reading his own, he will know how deeply they cared for him and his legacy of laughter above all that he left behind. Donald was an awesome human being and would do anything for anybody and never, ever expect anything in return... Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
