Donald Merchant Sr. Obituary
Donald E. Merchant Sr., known as Don, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on February 7, 2025, at home. Born on November 6, 1935, in Lewiston, Maine, Don’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family and a strong worth ethic.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carol A. Merchant (née Mellady), his son, James Merchant, and his daughter, Wendy A. Merchant and her partner Michael Tacinelli, and Doreen’s life partner Michael C. Marley. He was a cherished grandfather to David Merchant and his wife, Brittany, Daniel Merchant, Chelsea Merchant, Shelby Merchant and her partner, Paul and son Wylder, Joseph merchant, Dillon Merchant, and Shayne Merchant. While Don’s heart was vast, it was touched by sorrow with the passing of his daughter, Doreen Wroblinski, and his son, Donald Merchant Jr.
Don’s working years were defined by his tenure as a truck driver for teamsters Local 671, a position he held with pride and dedication until his retirement. Never one to sit still, Don continued to contribute to his community after retirement, delivering plants to local nurseries and keeping environments tidy at the Brown Jacobson Law Firm. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his loved ones.
Don was a lifetime member of the Willimantic Moose Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose #1440, until its closure. He was also a member in good standing at the Ukrainian National Home in North Windham. He found joy in the camaraderie and community service that the lodge and club provided. Don and his wife, Carol, enjoyed their trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, sharing laughs and creating memories with their friends.
Summers held a special place in Don’s heart, as he and Carol became seasonal campers, a tradition they cherished. The campgrounds were brought to life with the laughter of friends and family. These gatherings were a reflection of Don’s generous, selfless, and thoughtful nature, as he always put others before himself and sought to bring joy to those around him.
To know Don was to know a man who exemplified strength, integrity, and kindness. He approached life with a selfless attitude that left a lasting impact on everyone he met. His legacy is one of love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family, values that will continue to resonate through the generations.
As we bid farewell to Don, we celebrate a life well-lived. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
Don’s family takes solace in remembering a man who was the cornerstone of their lives. His memory will forever be treasured, his lessons forever cherished, and his presence forever missed.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Donald E. Merchant Sr. was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to shine brightly for years to come.
