Donald DeLorme Obituary
Donald J. DeLorme, 60, of Willimantic, CT passed away on February 4, 2023 with his sisters by his side. He was born in Willimantic, CT, the son of Barbara (Doubleday) Moore and the late Richard DeLorme.
Donald grew up in Willimantic and after his schooling moved to North Carolina where he spent many years before returning to his hometown of Willimantic.
Don was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of nine. In 2004, he received the gift of life and was the recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant. He liked to celebrate that day as his Re-birthday. Before returning to his hometown his leg was removed and he was fitted with a prosthetic which he proudly displayed every day. Don always had a smile on his face and loved to make people laugh. He never let the many health obstacles he had to overcome stop him from enjoying life.
Don was gifted a banjo for Christmas as a very young teen. From that point on he was determined to teach himself how to play and from there launched out to other stringed instruments. He enjoyed playing with friends and other musicians and his talent was evident right from the beginning. His rich deep voice was so beautiful, and he tapped that potential to its fullest. It will surely be missed by his family and friends. On his last day with us… he assured us that he would reunite with his beloved Pug “Jake” on that Rainbow Bridge and continue their journey together.
In addition to his mother and her husband Donald Moore, he is survived by his sisters Jackie Gottlieb and her husband Richard and Laurie Keough and her husband James, nieces Pamela Beaudette and Kimberly Beaudette, nephew Dillon Keough, and great niece Charlotte Busey.
Donald’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic with his funeral service starting at 5:00pm. His private burial will be held at a later date.
