Obituary

Donald F. “Don” Bassett passed away peacefully at home in Windham on June 5, 2026, at the age of 53.

Born in Willimantic on September 18, 1972, he was the son of Lester and Linda (Wojick) Bassett. Don graduated from Windham Technical School in 1990. He worked as a toolmaker for 35 years and spent the last 25 years of his career with MTM Corporation in Andover, Connecticut.

Don was a hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand. A lifelong sports fan, he faithfully followed the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a child, he enjoyed Little League baseball and duckpin bowling, earning awards in both. As an adult, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and softball with friends and was always ready for an arm-wrestling challenge.

Don loved video games throughout his life, from playing Zelda on Atari to Gran Turismo on his PS5. Over the years, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, but his favorite rides were his Mustangs. No drive was complete without music, and his tastes ranged from Metallica to country music.

Don is survived by his mother, Linda (Wojick) Bassett; his sister, Christine (Bassett) Bernard; her children, Joseph, Jenna, and Juliana Bernard; his aunt and godmother, Patricia Wojick; his uncle and godfather, Michael Wojick; his aunts, Linda Anderson, Cynthia Wildowski (David), Barbara Bitgood (Jeff), and Sheryl Shea (Steve); as well as many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Lester Lee Bassett; his paternal grandparents, John and Ruth Bassett; his maternal grandparents, Marilyn and Fred Wojick; his cousin, Jessica Zasadnyj; his aunt, Ruth Schaefer; and his uncles, Walter Bassett, John Bassett, and Richard Bassett.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in honor of Don on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the French Club in Windham. Please join us as we share many happy memories and celebrate Don’s life.
