Dennis Walker Obituary
It is with a heart full of cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Scott Walker, known affectionately as Dennie to his friends and loved ones, on the 10th of October, 2024.
Born on the 9th of May,1940, in Mount Vernon, South Dakota, Dennie's journey through life was marked by generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and a gentle spirit that touched the hearts of everyone he met. He took his final breath surrounded by love in Coventry, Connecticut, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
Dennie's early years in the prairie lands of South Dakota cultivated a deep appreciation for the natural world, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. From nursing injured wildlife back to health to the joyful adoption of his beloved raccoon, Oscar, Dennie's love for animals knew no bounds, and this love was epitomized by his faithful dog, Millie. A true outdoorsman, he relished the sport of pheasant hunting and the simple pleasures of helping his mother in the family's local grocery store and granary.
Dennie's love of family was the cornerstone of his life. His beloved wife, Shannon Hall Walker, stood by his side in a partnership defined by mutual respect and unwavering support. Dennie leaves behind two sons, Michael (married to Mary) and Mark (married to Marianne), who both inherited their father's integrity and compassion. Dennie was the proud grandfather to his four grandchildren, Cassondra (married to Brad) Vahling, Ayden Walker, Rachael Schuberth, and Alexander Schuberth, and five great-grandchildren. His family circle included his cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, as well as his mother-in-law Elsie Hall, and brothers-in-law Randy Harger, Alton (married to Karen) Hall, and Brian (married to Colleen) Hall, and two sisters-in-law Kathy (married to Jeff) Diodato, and Hope (married to David) Tyrrell.
Preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lila Walker; his brother, Keith Walker; sister-in-law, Kit Walker; a grandson, Christopher Walker; and his father-in-law, Alton Hall, Dennie leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Dennie's was a high school basketball player who maintained his love for sports, passionately following the UCONN Huskies women's team, the Connecticut Sun, and the New England Patriots. A fixture in his community, Dennie's presence was synonymous with joy and laughter, and a penchant for corny jokes. After family meals he was the first to clear the table and start the dishes, as just one example of his helpful and thoughtful nature.
Dennie was generous. He gave of himself freely, whether it was through a smile that could light up a room, or a kind expression that could comfort a troubled soul. Dennie Walker's memory will be treasured as a beacon of love and selflessness. As we bid farewell to a man whose life was a testament to the beauty of a giving heart, we reflect on the indelible mark he left on this world. Dennis Scott Walker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, will be profoundly missed, but the lessons he taught us through his actions and the love he shared will continue to resonate for generations to come.
