Dennis A. Guyette

March 20, 1955 — November 17, 2009

Dennis A. Guyette, 54 of Storrs, CT. died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday November 17. He was born March 20, 1955 in New Britain, CT. He was the son of Joseph and Lena Errede. He was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1973 and then moved on to receive a degree at Hartford State Technical College. From 1991-1993 Dennis spent many long hours building a beautiful home for his family. They relocated to Storrs in April of 1993. Dennis was a dedicated and responsible employee of the Department of Transportation, District #1 for almost 30 years. He enjoyed his work and took pride in a job well done. Dennis treasured the many friends he made during his career. He was also a golf enthusiast, a regular at the gym, an avid amateur runner and he enjoyed riding and working on his Harley Davidson motorcycles as well as driving his Corvette. Dennis was the beloved husband of Elaine (Seidl) Guyette and the devoted father to Dennis M., Steven M., and Gary J., all of Storrs. He was pre-deceased by his second son Matthew J., who passed in 2007. He also leaves behind the "joy of his life", his grandson Steven Matthew Francisco Guyette. Dennis is also survived by his older brother, Ron Guyette, with whom he had a close and special relationship as well as Ron's wife Merrilyn Guyette, both of Storrs; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends and in-laws. Dennis was a very loving and devoted father to all four of his sons. He coached little league and soccer when his boys were in elementary and junior high school and later became a regular spectator at all of his sons' high school sporting events. Dennis was a gentle and unassuming person. He was a giving person, always a generous and gracious host to guests in his home. He had a special knack for making people feel welcome. Dennis was a patient and persistent problem solver. Throughout his life he enjoyed fixing things himself. He was a good mechanic and handy man who believed in doing a job right and having all the right tools for the job. Dennis also enjoyed reading suspense novels, watching UCONN basketball, and watching movies, everyone of which he seemed to remember in detail. Dennis will always be remembered for his generous and gentle personality and his love for family and friends. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Nov. 21st between 2:00 and 5:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic.
