Dennis John Dziekan, 71, of Willimantic, passed away on January 12, 2014. He was born in Willimantic, son of the late Walter and Germaine Dziekan on August 7, 1942. He was a member of the American Legion and worked as a painter until he retired in 2011. Dennis is preceded in death by a son, Randall Dziekan. He is survived by five children and their families, a daughter Laurie Savino and her husband Daniel of Hampton, and four sons, Gary Dziekan and his wife Carol of Baltic, Douglas Dziekan and his wife Jennifer of East Hampton, David Dziekan and Paige Martineau of Willimantic and Timothy Dziekan and Ruthie Gocka of Preston. He is also survived by two brothers, Reynold Dziekan of Willimantic and James Dziekan and his wife Dolores of Ashford. He leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday January 17, 2014 between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. A Memorial Service will take place at Sandy Point Nature preserve in August. The service will honor his love of the ocean and his pride in the large gatherings of friends and family ferried there each year over the past several decades in celebration of his birthday.
