He taught eighth grade science—3 years in Canterbury and 32 years in the town of Killingly. One of the highlights of his career was his field trips to Barn Island in Stonington, where his students learned all about the salt marsh. Talking to former students over the years, they all remembered Barn Island as a wonderful trip.
After retirement, it was difficult for Davis to go anywhere without bumping into former students who remembered him as a firm but kind, and engaging teacher. Davis was a caring father and husband and provider for his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, clamming, gardening and passed these passions and knowledge along to his sons. Davis was a lifetime member of the Fin, Fur and Feather Club in Chaplin. He was also a Boy Scout and did a lot of work with the Cub Scouts in Chaplin and the Boy Scout camp in Ashford. Davis was a good friend to many. He loved talking to anyone and could make friends anywhere. He was generous, always thinking of others and he had a great sense of humor. Davis spent many summers by the ocean in Rhode Island or traveling in his motor home with his family and friends. Davis was also a big UCONN women’s basketball fan as well as a Celtics and Red Sox fan!! He will be missed by all.
