David Lee Stoney Sr

In Loving Memory David Lee Stoney Sr., 63, of Willimantic, was born October 9, 1948 in Tampa, FL to the late Lula Mae Stoney. David was a graduate of Howard W. Blake High School in Tampa, FL. David was elected President of the youth board and later represented the board, giving a speech in Washington, DC, and receiving a national monetary award to open a franchise, enhancing the development of youth in Tampa, FL. His relationship with God began at an early age and for many years attended Friendly Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa, FL. He later joined the Calvary Baptist Church in Willimantic. He was a member of the Tampa Longshoreman's Union, where he worked for many years, later he worked for the State Of Connecticut at Mansfield Training School. He was also a corrections officer for the State of Connecticut. David was united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Smith for thirty-six years. Unto this union three children were born. David was called home on December 4, 2011 at Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic. He leaves to mourn, his wife Shirley Stoney, their children, Shunta Stoney, David Lee Stoney Jr., Jameela Stoney, and a granddaughter, Millyhon Stoney. His two children, DaVita Stoney and Yvette Stoney, a brother Harold Stoney, a sister Harriett Stoney, two aunts Willie Mae Lacey, and Betty Jo Williams and her husband Frank Williams. He will forever be loved and missed by many other family members and friends in Tampa, FL and Willimantic, CT. He was preceded in death by his mother Lula Mae Stoney, son David Lee Oliver, aunt Rosa Lee Waterman and aunt Pearlee Mae Barns, all of Tampa Florida. Services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, 412 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT. Public visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:30. Burial will follow at the New Willimantic Cemetery. Following internment, the family will receive relatives and friends at Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements are through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
