David Nelson Perry, 67, of Scotland, the husband of Bridget Ann (Donahue) Perry, died unexpectedly on his birthday Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on February 15, 1944, he was the son of Eileen (Vennard) Perry of Scotland CT and the late George Nelson Perry Jr. He graduated from Windham High School in 1962. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston MA and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree which he utilized in industrial electrical sales for 30+ years. David served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. David's zest for life and strong faith led him to serve God in the Christian ministry. David was an avid Ford race car enthusiast who followed his passion and started the "Stang Shop" in Scotland, CT. Eager to take on his dreams, David encouraged his family to always follow your heart .This passion for motor sports never died, as a child of 8 years tinkering on small engines in his father's barn, to later years of drag racing and engine building. David will be remembered by friends and family for his compassion for others. David is also survived by a daughter Laurie (Perry) Haddock and her husband Richard, sons David James Perry, Sean Michael Perry and his wife Lucinda, and Elijah Joseph Perry; and grandchildren, Olivia, Caelan, Hannah, Madigan, Dru and Liam. David as the eldest son is survived a by his siblings, George Perry and his wife Pat, Rodney Perry, Joan (Perry) Doyle and her husband Raymond, Janet (Perry) Garson and her husband David and Fred Perry and his wife Charlene. His family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday February 18th from 4:30-7:30pm. A Church service will be held on Saturday February 19th at Scotland Congregational Church, Rte. 14, Scotland, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at Scotland Volunteer Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Scotland Congregational Church, P.O. Box 148, Scotland, CT 06264.
