David Morris Obituary
David J. Morris began his eternal journey on his most loved trails on June 17, 2024. Since his retirement as senior program analyst in the Informational Technology Services (ITS) department at the University of Connecticut in 2001, he has been a dedicated hiker and group leader in the Appalachian Mountain Club, AMC.
Dave was born in Coventry, England on April 19, 1943, to Rose and Michael Morris. The family emigrated to the United States in 1948 and settled in Taftville, CT. Dave became a U.S. citizen in 1953. He went to public schools and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was based in Tucson, Arizona at the Davis Monthan Base from 1961- 65; following his service he honed his data processing skills at Thames Valley Technical College. He was employed at UConn from 1966-2001.
Dave and his wife Linda Morse were married in 1973 and moved to Chaplin in 1977. Dave was elected to the Chaplin Board of Finance for many years and was a dedicated member of the Democratic Town Committee. During the couple’s vacation time they traveled all over the world crossing the Atlantic and Pacific many times until Linda’s death in February 2000.
Dave loved cats and provided a home for many. He had a special affection for Max who was over 20 years old and passed a few months before Dave. He had many friends in the AMC and three very special friends; Kitty LeShay along with her golden retriever, Scout, who Dave absolutely loved and adored; As well as his dear friend Gail Ceccarelli who has been a caring and supportive friend and colleague for decades. Dave’s gentle soul, love for adventure, thoughtfulness, wit and intellect, will be sorely missed and the memories made will be cherished.
There will be no calling hours and the burial is private. Monetary remembrances in Dave’s name can be donated to the organizations close to Dave’s heart; those connected to animals and/or nature, or one of the donor’s choice.
