David Michael Mccrory

April 26, 1945 — March 30, 2025

David Michael McCrory, age 79, formerly of Coventry, CT. passed away on 3-30-25 at his assisted living facility in South Windsor.

David was born on 4-26-45 in Memphis, TN, where he obtained grade school through high school, undergraduate, and graduate degrees. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mellie McCrory, who predeceased him along with his older brother Thomas (Ross) McCrory.
David served in the United States Navy.
Upon moving to CT, he pursued a Doctoral degree in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut and made this state his home. He was known by most as a gentle, kind, quick-witted man.

After a career change to special education, David was employed by the former Mansfield Training School, the Plainfield School System, EastCONN, and the Windham School Systems. He loved his work, was devoted to the children and families, and enjoyed the long-term friendships that developed with his coworkers.

David had been an avid reader. During his lifetime he also enjoyed playing bridge with friends, cooking, camping in Maine, and exercising at the Mansfield Community Center

David is survived by his beloved cousins, Sally Clark, of Centerville, MD, and Joanna McKnight of Clovis, CA, his former wife and friend, Dianne Virga of Mansfield Center, and several special friends.

Our thanks and gratitude goes to the practitioners who assisted with David’s care during his health challenges of the past few years, including the staff at Douglas Manor, Community Companions and Homemaker Services (especially Kim and Maureen), and all the caregivers and staff who touched his life and he theirs during his stay at Alto Evergreen Walk assisted living. We also wish to thank his buddy at the latter facility, Alan, whose support and companionship was invaluable.
