David S. Mastrangelo

David Steven Mastrangelo, 52, of Pomfret, died unexpectedly on June 1, 2006 in Marlborough. Dave grew up in Storrs and participated in his family s various restaurant businesses including the Willimantic Hotel. He has resided in Pomfret Center for the past 13 years with his devoted wife, Marlene Heald and his cherished granddaughter, Ayla Heald. He was a Viet Nam War era veteran of the Air Force. Dave was dedicated to his work as a water treatment technician for Birmingham Utilities. He was much loved because of his generosity of spirit, his zany sense of humor and his unfailing willingness to help others. He delighted in attracting a variety of birds to his yard with an amazing array of feeders. David was very devoted to his family. In addition to his wife Marlene and granddaughter Ayla, he will be sorely missed by his loving mother, Helen Mastrangelo of Zephyrhills, FL, his twin sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Nelson Robinson of Manchester, his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bill Barr of Plant City, FL, his brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Diana Mastrangelo of Storrs, his father-in-law, Lee Zimmer of Jensen Beach, FL, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gail Zimmer and David Asman of Fair Lawn, NJ, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Karen Zimmer of Storrs and his stepson, Morgan Heald of Willimantic. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Mastrangelo, his brother, Douglas Mastrangelo and his stepdaughter, Leila Heald. His devoted extended family and friends, including many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins will sorely miss his spark and warmth. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Pink Cemetery, Mansfield. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his special relationship with his granddaughter Ayla may make memorial contributions to the Ayla Heald Trust, c/o Bank of America, 211 Kennedy Dr., Putnam, CT 06260.
