Darris R. Mitchell

Mrs. Darris (Welch) Mitchell, 93, was called safely home on Wednesday, June 10, 2008. Born in Hazlehurst, MS August 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Rila Welch. Darris was the beloved wife of the late Marvin L. Mitchell Sr. She was a loving and devoted mother of nine children. She is predeceased by four children, George Mitchell, Otis Mitchell, Bertha Hollis and William Mitchell. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Martha Mitchell of Chicago, IL, Mr. Marvin Mitchell of Willimantic, CT, Ms. Clara Noble of Chicago, IL, Mr. Oscar Mitchell of Washington, D.C. and Ms. Stella Hunter of Willimantic, CT. She is the grandmother of forty grandchildren, ninety two great grandchildren and forty eight great great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 412 Valley St., Willimantic with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery.
