Dale Lynn (Mitchell) McKeever of Columbia, CT passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at home with her family.
Dale was born April 17, 1947 in Norwich, CT to parents William and Lillian (Jalowski) Mitchell. She was raised in Taftville and graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School and the Academy of the Holy Family High School in Baltic, CT. Dale received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry from St. Joseph College (University of St. Joseph) in West Hartford, CT. While at St. Joseph College, she had the unique opportunity to study and handle rocks from the moon expedition under a grant with the National Science Foundation and NASA.
Dale started her work career as a middle school science teacher at Assumption Jr. High School in Manchester, CT. She later became a chemistry teacher for several years at South Catholic High School in Hartford, CT. Dale then accepted a full-time college chemistry position at Hartford State Technical College and later at Capital Community College from where she retired as a full professor of chemistry in 2003.
Dale met Neil McKeever in 1969. They married in 1972. They had 51 good years together. Throughout that time, they were blessed with numerous travels, good pets, good friends, and most of all, their beloved daughter, Alyssa Frost McKeever. Dale was an avid reader throughout her life and books brought her great comfort as her health deteriorated.
Dale is survived by her beloved husband and daughter, her kitty Charlie, brothers William Mitchell (Constance) and Gregory Mitchell (Wendy) both of Norwich, CT, numerous relatives, friends, and former students who loved and respected her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents.
Dale’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 9:00am at St. Columba Church, 328 CT-66 Columbia, CT 06237 with her Funeral Mass commencing at 10:00am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
