Dale Mark Hammond, 65, of Columbia, CT, beloved husband of Liana (McDougall) Hammond, passed away after a long and courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Born in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Gary and Audrey (Lathers) Hammond. Dale lived a life marked by movement as he journeyed through various places. Ultimately, he chose to put down roots in East Hampton, CT, where he and his wife, Liana, raised their children for three decades. Most recently, he moved to Columbia, CT, where he spent the last year with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Dale was an avid fisherman and hunter, known for his remarkable skills and his collection of prized catches, including Stone Dam and Ohio Bucks, as well as Chibougamau walleyes and northern pike. His experiences in the great outdoors fed his spirit and filled his heart with stories to share. He dedicated an impressive 35 years of his career to Raytheon Technologies, where he refined his skills and contributed to the development of innovative aerospace technologies.
Dale was a devoted family man who shared a beautiful 45-year journey with his wife, Liana. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Shannon, David, and Dana. Dale instilled a spirit of humbleness and adventure in their home, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. He built enchanting treehouses that became magical retreats for his children and went on thrilling hunting trips with his son. The warmth of their living room was especially evident duringh holiday celebrations, where Dale twirled his daughters around, spreading love and creating fond memories that would be treasured for years to come. The joy of their Friday nights, filled with laughter, created countless memories as he spent quality time with his kids and nephews, Ryan and Patrick.
Above all, Dale took immense pride in the affectionate title of "Papa." His heart swelled with joy as he cheered for his eldest grandsons, Blake and Myles, along with his granddaughter Charlotte, as they showcased their talents on the baseball diamond, the soccer field, and during enthusiastic cheerleading events.
Dale also set off on many memorable journeys to the rugged landscapes of Maine, where he shared his love for the outdoors while teaching Colton, Camden, and Nora the wonders of nature.
He filled family dinners with warmth and laughter, often finding himself surrounded by the exuberance of his youngest grandsons, Rhett and Sawyer, who adored the stories and wisdom he imparted during those joyful gatherings. Each of his grandchildren's triumphs felt like a personal victory to him, filling him with boundless joy.
In his final days, Dale found solace on Acorn Island, a place that held his heart, where the beauty of nature provided a fitting backdrop for reflection and family moments. His legacy will live on in the laughter and love he nurtured within his family.
