Daisy G. Bond, 101, of Mansfield, CT, died peacefully on May 11, 2010, at Mansfield Center for Nursing. Daisy was born July 22, 1908 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Frederick Goertz and Daisy R. (Moeller) Goertz, who gave her an idyllic childhood. Mr. Goertz was the owner of August Goertz and Company Metal Goods Manufacturing in Newark. Daisy was predeceased by a sister, Agnes C. Blades of Avon, New Jersey and a brother, Augustus F. Goertz of New York City. She was also predeceased by first husband, George B. Wiedenmayer and second husband, A.E.M. Bond, both of New Jersey. Daisy is survived by her daughter, Joan Buck of Storrs and three granddaughters, Dr. Susan L. Buck of Williamsburg, Virginia, Carol D.B. Whitehead and husband Frank of Bradford-on-Avon, England and Amy J. Diehl and husband Paul of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, James and Katherine Whitehead and Alex, Christopher and Corey Diehl. Also surviving are nephews, Dr. Fred Blades and wife Sarah of New Jersey, Harold Blades and wife Theresa of New Jersey, niece Nancy B. Fatemi and husband Fariborz of MacLean, Virginia and niece Yvette Janssen and husband Martin Ainbinder of New York City and nephew Augustus Goertz of New York City and niece Elissa Higgins of Albuquerque, NM. Daisy was a much-loved parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt and great aunt. She is remembered for her caring and generous nature, her ready humor, her legendary cooking skills and her love of travel. Daisy lived and worked for over 60 years in Brunswick, Maine, where she worked as a secretary from 1950 until her retirement in 1973 from the Brunswick school system. She was employed in various schools, including Brunswick High School, Longfellow School and Jordan Acres School. Daisy co-founded the Pejepscot Terrace Housing, where she resided happily for many years. A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family, at the Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic.
