Curtis L. Hoffman, March 26, 1927-April 8, 2014 Beloved husband of Mary Dean, father of Rebecca, Timothy, Daniel, and Samuel, grandfather of Rachel, Abigail, Henry, Casey, Meryl, Hannah, and Risa Hoffman, died peacefully at home in Storrs. An avid lover of life, he shared his infectious energy with all those he encountered. Born and raised on a Pennsylvania dairy farm, he derived his being from the earth and from the Christian teachings of love, forgiveness, fellowship, and social justice. Ordained as an American Baptist minister, he served several churches in Virginia, New Jersey, and Connecticut. As a social service administrator, counselor, and civil rights and anti-poverty advocate, he contributed his many gifts of leadership, mediation, beliefs in peace with justice, and sense of humor to many movements, organizations, and individuals. He shared his love of, and respect for nature with several generations of young people as a trail camp leader, hiking and backpacking in the mountains. An adventurous traveler, he and Mary explored much of the world together after his retirement in 1989. He shared his ministry in various volunteer capacities, notably as a volunteer firefighter and with the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry. Always deriving joy and strength from the earth, he showered his family and friends with vegetables and flowers. He is pre-deceased by his ex-wife Anne Henry Andrews, and their youngest son Nathan. He is survived by his brother Elwood and his wife Lillian Hoffman, his sister Ruth and her husband Carroll Fellman, as well as daughters-in-law Anne and Mara Hoffman, and Renee Mansfield and several loving cousins. His companions Strawberry Dog and Sunny Cat miss him dearly. A Celebration of Curt's Life will be held at Central Baptist Church, 457 Main Street, Hartford on April 26 at 2 p. m. Memorial donations may be made to Tri-County Greenhouse, 290 Middle Turnpike, Mansfield Depot, CT 06251. The Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic, assisted with arrangements. Please visit
