Clifford Tompkins Obituary
Clifford Emerson Tompkins, passed from this life on June 6, 2023, in North Port Florida. Cliff was born on February 18, 1959, to the late Leonard B. Tompkins and Jane (Lounsbury) Haney.  He leaves behind his sister Karen Tompkins of Wimauma, Florida; niece Samantha Bramberger of Lithia, Florida, and his beloved and faithful Labrador retriever, Cletus.

An outstanding athlete, Cliff graduated from Windham High School in 1977 where he played football and baseball, serving as a football Tri-Captain his senior year. Cliff went on to play football and baseball at Southern Connecticut State University, before leaving college to work for the family business, C.C. Lounsbury Inc., a trucking, lumber, and pole hauling company started by his grandfather, and later owned and operated by his mother.

Cliff’s passion for baseball continued well after college and he played several seasons of American Legion and Willimantic Twilight League ball. Cliff eventually transitioned to the Willi MAC softball league, and in 2008 was inducted into the Willi MAC Hall of Fame. He continued his involvement with baseball as an umpire and was always a willing batting coach to those who sought advice. Cliff was also a proud and long-serving Willimantic Elks Club member, following in the footsteps of his father.

Always the life of the party, Cliff spent his spare time surrounded by good friends and having the best times imaginable, enjoying his 1988 Corvette convertible, cooking for others, and snowmobiling at his camp in Maine. As a former part owner of C.C. Lounsbury Inc., he managed the business for many years, before relocating to Florida, and working for the City of North Port until his retirement. Cliff enjoyed his years in retirement, often splitting his time between Maine, Connecticut, and Florida. He will be missed by many.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 10:30 am, at the Windham Center Cemetery.
