Clifford L. Eldredge

Clifford L. Eldredge, 86, of Mansfield Center, died Saturday September 4, 2004 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Corrine (Kilburn) Eldredge who died in June of 2002. Clifford was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served with the 25th Division on Guadalcanal and was a member of Merrill's Marauders during the China, Burma, and India Campaigns. He joined Connecticut Light & Power Company in 1946 in the Line Department and was employed by them until his retirement in 1976. In the later years he served as a Chief Lineman before concluding his tenure in the Engineering Department. Clifford was born in Willington on July 2, 1918, one of seven children of the late Clinton A. Eldredge and Daisey (Buck) Eldredge. Of those seven children, 3 predeceased Clifford leaving 3 surviving sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hawkins, Mrs. Florence Burnham, both of Mansfield and Mrs. Dorothy Bottari of Willimantic. Clifford is also survived by 2 sons, Michael Eldredge of Willington and John Eldredge of Guinee Africa, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. His family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
