Clarence Thornton Obituary
Clarence E. Thornton, 101, of Hampton, CT, passed away on February 6, 2023. He died at home, surrounded by family. He was born in Pomfret, CT, the son of the late George Howard and Frances Elsie (Dickey) Thornton.

Clarence was a long-time resident of Hampton and was well known by many of the townspeople. He served in World War II as a truck driver. He worked many jobs during his life and has painted many of the houses in Hampton and the surrounding towns. Clarence bore a resemblance to Abraham Lincoln and portrayed the President in many town Memorial Day Parades. He was a beloved figure in town and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children: Keith Thornton and his wife Michelle; Patricia Goodwin, Robert Thornton, Sandra Storey and her husband “Stretch”; Sharron Dickson and her husband James, and Sharlene Thornton; along with sister Elsie May Johnson, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clarence was predeceased by his wife Shirley Kimball Thornton, brothers Neal and Frank Thornton, and sisters Edith Shippee and Sally Desjardins.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His funeral service will be at 11:00am at the funeral home on Saturday, February 11, 2023 with his burial following at North Cemetery, Hammond Hill Rd. in Hampton, CT.
