Clarence Eddy Hardy

October 7, 1943 — February 3, 2013

Clarence "Eddy" Hardy, 69, of Columbia, born on Oct. 7, 1943 in Fort Worth TX, passed away on Feb. 3, 2013 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Eddie was the beloved husband of Sharon (Starkey) Hardy. They shared forty eight wonderful years of marriage together. Eddy attended University of Texas at Arlington prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy for six years. He moved to Connecticut in 1970 where he managed Grants in downtown Hartford and J.C. Penny at West Farms Mall prior to opening his own hardware store in Manchester, known as Hardy's True Value. He operated the store for nearly twenty years prior to retiring. In Eddy's spare time, he enjoyed golfing and spending cherished time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Rachel Griffin and her husband Christopher of Columbia, four grandchildren, Shannon and Dannielle Shavce both of Willimantic and Katherine and Sarah Griffin both of Columbia; his brother and sister in law Burt and Jeanne Starkey of Columbia; his sister Mary Fenn of Fort Worth, TX and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Clounce and Bessie (Rogers) Hardy, five siblings and an infant son Glenn Michael. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday Feb. 7, 2013 at 11:00am at Columbia Congregational Church, 325 Rte. 87, Columbia. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Center Cemetery, Columbia. Eddy's family would like to thank all of the nurses and hospice staff for their kindness and help throughout this difficult time. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to "Katie's Crew of Angels". All donations will be forwarded to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Katie's Crew of angels helps raise funds for finding a cure for CF, something Eddy was passionate about.
