Clara Mae Harris

Clara Mae Harris, 79, of Willimantic, went home to Glory on the evening of May 17, 2013 with her family by her side. Clara was born June 15, 1933 in Taylorsville, MS. to the late Benjamin and Annie Mae Clark. Clara was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Willimantic, CT. where she was the Chairman of the Deaconess Board, advisor for both the Usher Board and the Baptist Training Union and the Mother of the Church. Clara worked for the Hartford Poultry Company in Willimantic, CT., for 12 years and she retired from both the American Thread Company and Windham Public Schools. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho, Sheba Court #1. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Calvin A. Harris, a son James Evans, 2 sisters, Lee Owens and Betty Sue Patterson and 2 brothers, Junior Ray Clark and Benjamin Clark Jr. She is survived by her 6 children, Billy Ray Clark of Meridian, MS., Billy Joe Harris of Willimantic, CT., Betty Harris-Perkins and Florence M. Harris both of Willimantic, CT., Charles R. and Nancy Harris of North Windham, CT., Stanley B. Harris of Willimantic, CT. and a sister, Katherine Pickering of Taylorsville, MS. She leaves 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Calvin, Jason B., Jason, Shojuana, Randolph, LaShondra, Marcus, Cayla and Crysta also 8 great grandchildren. Clara will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday May 23, 2013 between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195), Willimantic, CT. The funeral will be Friday May 24, 2013, 11:00am at First Congregational Church, 199 Valley Street Willimantic, CT. Interment will follow in New Willimantic Cemetery.
