Clara F. Anderson, 92, of Brooklyn, CT passed away at home on Thursday, January 14, 2010. She was the widow of James P. Anderson who died in 1997. They were married for 52 years. Clara is survived by her sister Raye Holmes of Cincinnati, OH; brother David Hogue of Chickasha, OK; daughter Jane Hoffman and son-in-law William Hoffman of Hampton, CT; son James S. Anderson and daughter-in-law Linda of Harrisburg, NC and son, David P. Anderson and daughter-in-law Barbara of Huber Heights, OH. Clara is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Clara was born on Oct. 29, 1917 in Oklahoma and grew up there during the dust bowl and depression years where she earned her teaching degree. Later she married Jim while he was serving in the Navy in California. Jim and Clara lived in Hawaii, Key West, FL and N. Kingstown, RI. After Jim's retirement from the Navy, they settled in Sterling, CT. Clara was a first grade teacher at Sterling Elementary School until 1973 when they bought a farm in Oklahoma. Clara continued teaching in Chickasha, OK until she retired. In 1999 after Jim died she moved to Ohio to be near David and his family. In 2007, Clara moved back to Connecticut to be near Jane and her family. Clara enjoyed being close to the youngest members of the family. She liked to garden and sew and she loved reading and movies. Her real favorites were to watch the UConn Women's basketball team and playing Scrabble with friends and family. There will be no calling hours. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday Jan. 20th at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cedar Swamp Rd., Hampton, CT. Interment will be in the spring in North Cemetery Hampton.
