Claire (Donahue) Hicks of Hampton, CT, beloved wife of Clifford B. Hicks passed away, peacefully at home in the arms of her beloved husband, on Sunday, February 24, 2013. She was born on February 7, 1926, in Willimantic, CT the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Maynard) Donahue. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Shirley (Donahue) Crawford of Woodstock, her brother, John Donahue and his wife Pat of Hampton, her brothers-in-law Donald Hicks and his wife Lee, Harry Naumec, and many adoring nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by a brother Gerald, and sisters Bernice, Rita, Anna, and Dorothy. Claire was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, the Antiquarian and Historical Society, and the Senior Citizen Club all of Hampton. She taught in the towns of Chaplin, Pomfret, Scotland, and Hampton as well as at the Noble School of Eastern Connecticut State College. She was a generous lady willing to give of her time and possessions to her students, friends, family, and those in need. After retirement, she and her husband spent their winters in Jupiter, Florida. There will be a Funeral Mass held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cedar Swamp Road, Hampton, CT on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in South Cemetery, Hampton. Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic, assisted the Hicks family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Eastern CT, 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield Center, CT 06250 or the Hampton-Chaplin Ambulance Corps, PO Box 98, Hampton, CT 06247.
