Christine P. Spurlock

December 25, 1929 — July 28, 2003

Christine P. Spurlock, 73, of Philip Lauter Ave. Willimantic, widow of James C. Spurlock, died Monday July 28, 2003 at home. She was born Dec. 25, 1929 in Gretna, VA., the daughter of the late Charlie L. and Myrtle (Miller) Petty. She was a graduate of Virginia State College and received her Masters Degree from Columbia University. In 1956 she moved to Willimantic. Mrs. Spurlock had been a Physical Education teacher at the Bacon Academy in Colchester for 35 years prior to her retirement. She was also an avid bowler at the Lucky Strike Lanes. She was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Congregational Church in Willimantic . She is survived by 2 devoted nieces whom she embraced as her daughters; Marcillia Huguley of Providence, R.I. and Cynthia Clark of Landover, MD., a sister Arlene Robinson and her husband Edwin of Philadelphia, PA., 4 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 5 great grandchildren, 2 brothers in law; Leonard Spurlock of Salem, VA. and Kelly Spurlock of Willimantic and 5 sisters in law; Helen Scarborough of Philadelphia, PA., Betty Shearin of Columbia, S.C., Lois Hopson of Roanoke, VA., Grace Hopson of Storrs and Reble Spurlock of Willimantic. Her family will receive friends at the First Congregational Church, 199 Valley St. Willimantic on Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30am prior to her 10:30 Funeral Service with the Rev. Charlene Hinckley officiating. Burial will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery. Arrangements through the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic.
