Chester Waite

November 10, 1919 — March 31, 2007

Chester R. Waite Sr., 87, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 in Willimantic. He was born November 10, 1919 in North Andover, Massachusetts, the son of George and Stella Waite and was raised in Hartford. He served in the U.S. Navy onboard the U.S.S. Flagship Eldorado during World War II in Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines. Chester worked on the Mercury Project at Hamilton Standard and in the Experimental Department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. An ordained minister, he helped start five churches in the state of Connecticut. He is survived by his sister, Blanche Galison of Newington and four children, Chester of Florida, Laura of Danielson, Janet of Washington State and David of Mansfield, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd. Lebanon. There are no calling hours.
