Charles Messier

Charles Messier, 78, of Coventry, husband of Florence (Rychling) Messier, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Windham Hospital. He was born September 11, 1927 in Willimantic, son of David and Melvina (Clang) Macha and had lived most of his life in Coventry. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II and employed as a machinist in several area machine shops, retiring in 1993 from Polymer Films in Rockville. Charles loved to fish, garden and to do custom butchering for his friends. He spent many happy times vacationing at his cabin in Maine and loved to attend family gatherings. In addition to his wife he is survived by 6 children and their spouses, Stephen and CeCe Messier of Mansfield, Charlene and Bill Crosthwaite of Willimantic, Florenda Messier of Merrow, Randy and Rose Messier of Coventry, Lorna and Eddie Williams of Coventry, Dana and Mae Messier of Coventry, a former daughter-in-law, Ella Hill of Marlborough, a brother, Joseph Macha of Willimantic, 2 sisters, Blanche Sousa of Coventry and Alice Rood of Windham, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic, Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Nathan Hale Cemetery, Coventry.
