Charles Bigelow, Jr., 96, of Enfield, CT died April 5, 2016. Charles was born on August 31, 1919 to Edna Brown and Charles Bigelow, Sr. He grew up in the Willimantic area attending local schools, including the Willimantic Trade School. Charles joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1937 and remained active in their program through 2015. Later in life he built a replica ? a panorama view of his CCC barracks which was on display in Kent, CT. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the European theatre from 1941-1945 in the 313th Medical Battalion. Charles worked for the L.T. Wood Company and Pratt & Whitney, and he also worked with the Easter Seals foundation, becoming their poster person for rehabilitation. With his dear friend, Erica Crosman, he revisited Europe and traveled to Alaska. His last thirteen years were spent in his wheelchair at Blair Manor in Enfield, but this did not hinder him from feeding many birds and planting vegetables in his patio pots. He was predeceased by his brother Francis, his sister Virginia and numerous cousins whom he cherished and considered his immediate family, namely Nellie Muzkoski, Eugene, Robert, Henry and Bert Bigelow. Charles is survived by his sisters Doris Miller, Madelyn Boucar, and Rose Zoldak, his brothers Donald Bigelow and Raymond Bigelow of St. Augustine, FL. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
