Charles J. Corcoran, 79, loving and caring husband of Shirley (Gardiner) Corcoran for 53 years, passed away Monday March 20, 2006 at home in Mansfield Center after a courageous battle with Wegener s Granulomatosis. He was born to the late Joseph and Nellie (Day) Corcoran in New London, CT on September 9, 1926. Charlie was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific and was employed at CL&P for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, a life member of the Mansfield Fire Department, the Mansfield V.F.W., a member of the Association of Retired Employees of Northeast Utilities and a former member of the Elks. For many years, happy winters were spent at their home in Ruskin, Florida. Charlie was most content working alongside Gregg with Danny in tow. Besides his wife, Charlie is survived by his cherished children, Gregg S. Corcoran of Lebanon, Wendy and Daniel W. Parker and his special grandson, Daniel W. Parker Jr., all of Mansfield, a sister Anna Klase of Mansfield, cousin Edna Kelley of North Windham and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Corcoran and his sister, Alva Rogers. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, 945 Storrs Rd., Rte. 195, Storrs. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Center Cemetery.
