Charles E. Alvord Jr

Charles E. Alvord Jr., 71, of Scotland, husband of Mary (Herron) Alvord, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at the Windham Hospital. He was born January 13, 1935, the son of Charles Alvord Sr. and Irene (Chennet) Alvord. He had lived in California for over 30 years before returning to Connecticut in 1984. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and for many years a member of the Knights of Columbus achieving 4th degree status. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 children, Athena Meyer of Milwaukee, OR, Charles E. Alvord III of Eureka, CA, a brother, David Alvord of Philadelphia, PA, 4 stepchildren, William Kitfield, Richard Kitfield, Maryann MacKinnon, all of Scotland, James Kitfield of Canterbury and 7 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, Timothy Kitfield of Scotland and a sister, Dorothy Armstrong. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow in the Scotland Cemetery.
