Cecilio Almonte

Cecilio Almonte, 85, passed peacefully on January 5, 2017, with his youngest daughter by his side. He was born on December 23, 1931 in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. A humble man that was blessed with love. Cecilio married his sweetheart Maria Altagracia, and he was a strong loving husband who always took care of his wife and 5 children. He watched them flourish with the love and wisdom he instilled in their hearts. You reap what you sow was never more evident than in his life. He planted seeds of love, strength and kindness in the heart of his family, and because of that they fought for him until the very end. Cecilio was a man who appreciated the simple things in life and always had a smile. You could always find him watching war movies with his dog Jason, telling his grandchildren stories about Santo Domingo, taking long walks, and playing Bingo with his family. He was loved immensely by his 13 grandchildren, who were always by his side. He was surrounded constantly by his family members; even when they were told to go home. Cecilio?s love and legacy will live on in all our hearts, because he will never leave our hearts and minds. We are all thankful that we were granted this time on earth to learn from him, and to love this truly amazing human being. Cecilio is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Maria; his five children, Juan and his wife Marisol, Mayra Almonte and her husband Robert Ferrigno, Cesar and his wife Enegilda Almonte, Rosa Almonte, Alberto and his wife Amelfis Almonte; as well as his 13 grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Sagrado Coraz?n Catholic Church, 61 Club Rd., Windham, CT, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd.
