Carrie L. Smith

Carrie L. Smith, aged 96, died peacefully on November 21, 2015 at Douglas Manor, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 27, 1919 to the late John Henry and Darlene Smith in Okolona, MS and was the second child of nine children. She moved to Willington, CT at the age of 21 to work as a care taker for the Halls family. Because of her ambitious nature, she only kept this job for year and moved to Willimantic, CT to pursue a career at Electric Motors. She married the late William J. Smith in Providence, RI in 1948. She was a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Willimantic. She was a strong, independent woman who valued the love of her family. She is predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband and two son in-laws. She is survived by her four children; Shirley Ann Stoney, Eugene Smith, William J. Smith Jr., and Pandora Barnwell, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (RTE 195) Willimantic, CT at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am. Interment will be at the Willimantic Cemetery and the repass at the VFW.
