Carolyn Jean (Smith) Haddad of Willimantic peacefully passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, January 7, 2013. She has joined her late husband of 51 years, Phillip Haddad. Born to William J. and Irene Smith on August 13, 1936, she attended Windham Public Schools, graduating in 1954. After high school she began working at Southern New England Telephone Company followed by the Electro-Motive Manufacturing Company. Her long-term career was with the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company/Fleet Bank, retiring in 1997. She has been a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and participating in Friendship Class. She has also been an active member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Lebanese American Club. As an avid fan of UConn basketball she enjoyed season tickets and membership in the Tip Off Club, Huddle Club and Dugout Club. During her retirement years she was a member of the CBT Alumni Club, Windham Historical Society, McSweeney Senior Center, Mansfield Senior Center and the Red Hat Huskies of Mansfield, where she served as the reigning Queen. Carol and her husband enjoyed winters in South Carolina and summers in Maine where she volunteered numerous hours to Camp Sunshine. Most important to her is the family she leaves, including her son and his wife, Peter and Darlene Haddad of Willimantic, daughter and her husband, David and Dianne Howard of Newport News, VA, and daughter and her partner, Joanne Haddad and Rose Kurcinik of Willimantic. Then there were those who could do no wrong, her grandchildren, Dustin Haddad and wife Melissa, Jennifer Haddad-Carter and husband Frank, Phillip Howard, William Howard, Andrew Howard, Kristen Haddad and fiance Raymond Merrill, Nicholas Lee, Cynthia Cooper and Wendy Kurcinik. Affectionately known as "GiGi" she will be sorely missed by her many great grandchildren. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin Lane, Mansfield, with interment following in the New Willimantic Cemetery.
