Caroline Louise (Chase) Ladd, 74, of Waterford, died Thursday Feb. 2, 2006 at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Bridgeport, the daughter of Harold Lucius Chase and Alice Caroline (Bugbee) Chase. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and taught elementary school for over 20 years in Windham, Waterford and Salem. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Rochester Bolen and her husband Fred Bolen of Niantic and Becky Rochester and her husband Steven Rochester of Waterford. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Rochester, Jeff Rochester, Niki Loscoe, Jessi Loscoe, Kim Rochester, Nate Rochester and Chrissi Rochester. Caroline spent her entire adult life helping others, whether it was helping students in the classroom, or victims of disasters across the United States. She was a very caring person who seemed to make the best of any situation. Caroline was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Southeastern CT., serving in many roles both locally and nationally. Caroline served as the Chairman of the Disaster Services program for the Southeastern CT. Chapter for 28 years. She also served on the Board of Directors for 8 years, as well as serving as Chairman of the Board for 3 years. In 1998, Caroline was awarded the American Red Cross CLARA BARTON AWARD for outstanding leadership. She took great joy in spending time with her seven grandchildren, watching them in many activities including high school football games, N.E.M.A. motocross races, East Coast Intensity and Thames Valley ALL STAR cheerleading teams, and was so proud of her grandchildren in college. She enjoyed spending her spare time playing Bridge in many groups in Mystic and Waterford. Caroline was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa-Waterford Chapter for many years. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday Feb. 6 between 6:00 and 8:00pm. Interment will be private in Old Willimantic Cemetery.
