Carol A. Merchant, 83, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on February 21, 2025, at Windham Hospital. In a poignant reflection of her deep bond with her beloved husband of 67 years, she passed exactly two weeks—and almost to the minute—after Donald.
Born on August 20, 1941, in Willimantic, CT, Carol spent her life deeply connected to family and friends. She dedicated over two decades of service to Rogers Corporation in Windham before retiring.
Carol is survived by her son, James Merchant, and her daughter, Wendy A. Merchant and her partner Michael Tacinelli, and Doreen’s life partner Michael C. Marley. She was a cherished grandmother, also known and lovingly called Meme’ by her grandkids, David Merchant and his wife, Brittany, Daniel Merchant, Chelsea Merchant, Shelby Merchant and her partner, Paul and their son Wylder, Joseph Merchant, Dillon Merchant, and Shayne Merchant.
Carol’s heart was touched by sorrow with the passing of her daughter, Doreen Wroblinski, son, Donald Merchant Jr. and her first grandchild, Stephanie Bailey.
Carol was a member of the Willimantic Women of the Moose, Loyal Order of the Moose #1440, for several years until its closure.
Carol found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson Wylder. Her love for dancing and singing was infectious, filling every gathering with warmth and energy. Mornings were often spent at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in hand, watching birds outside the window. A devoted fan of wrestling—especially WWE’s SmackDown and RAW—Carol’s enthusiastic cheers could be heard throughout the house during matches. Her admiration for Elvis Presley was unwavering; she adored all things Elvis-related, and her husband made sure she always had a fresh pair of Elvis sneakers every few months.
Carol enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and locally Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun with her husband. They shared many laughs and loved creating memories with their friends.
One of Carol’s most treasured traditions was teaching each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild how to say "I love you" in French: "Je t'aime {with all your heart}." Carol’s memory will live on through the love she shared with family and friends. May her legacy bring comfort to those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Carol, we celebrate a life well-lived. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
Carol’s family takes solace in remembering a woman who was the cornerstone of their lives. Her memory will be forever treasured, her lessons forever cherished, and her presence forever missed.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Carol A. Merchant was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly for years to come.
