Carol Ann Callahan

May 4, 1945 — June 15, 2015

Carol A. (Devine) Callahan, 70, of Mansfield Center, CT, left this life on June 15, 2015 surrounded by family whose love for her was immeasurable. She was born on May 4, 1945 in Beacon, NY, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Henrietta (Sayers) Devine. Carol was an amazing woman; a laughing afternoon on the back deck, a special "breaky" sandwich when the chips were down, a simply incredible mother and friend. Although Carol worked her way to vice president of a trust company, her most important jobs and the ones she treasured were being a mother and grandmother. On weekends she could be found cheering on the sideline of a grandchild's sporting event, looking for a bargain at Kohl's, walking on the beach or "vegging" in her chair watching Hallmark movies. Carol had a contagious zest for life. Wherever she went, fun was sure to follow. When she wasn't with her family, she was spending time with her many friends; playing bridge, at book club or sharing a glass of wine. She had a gift for making any day special. She will be missed by every person lucky enough to have shared a part of her life. Carol's spirit will be carried on through her four children, Deborah Callahan of Willington, Michael Callahan and his wife Reiko of Okinawa, Japan, Amy Callahan Lovejoy and her husband Jamie of Hebron and Bill Callahan and his significant other Hilary Osgood of Willimantic, and; a brother Joseph Devine; two sisters, Henrietta Bolander and Virginia Bolander; 12 cherished grandchildren, Yuji, Jackson, Caitlyn, Junta, Tyler, Will, Reina, Emma, Ryan, Elizabeth, Zoe, and Maclyn, and many nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a brother Richard Devine, and three sisters, Shirley LaVelle, Joan Butler and Alice Devine. Carol's life was truly a celebration and she would want those of us left behind to live into that. Find a beach. Leave only footprints. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please join the family to celebrate her life on Friday June 19 from 4-7 PM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 20 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic.
