Carmen Quintana Obituary
Carmen Lidia Quintana Alvarez, 75, passed away on January 27, 2022, at her home in Willimantic. She was born on July 23, 1946, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. Lidia, is survived by her husband Juan Quintana of 58 years, and her children: Nelivel Quintana, Juan Quintana Jr, daughter-in-law Osiris Quintana; grandchildren: Jacqueline Velez, Antonio Velez Jr., Nathaniel Quintana, Alexander Quintana, and her siblings: Eulogio Alvarez, Dolores “Loli” Alvarez, and Ceferino “Cefo” Alvarez, and many nieces and nephews she cared for and raised. She was predeceased by her parents, Florito Alvarez and Modesta Alvarez Muñiz, along with her sisters, Aurea “Adi” Alvarez, and Maria Luiza Alvarez.
Lidia grew up in Puerto Rico until her mid-teens when she moved to New Jersey then relocated to CT. She worked at the American Thread Mill until the mid 70s; and received her certification as a nurse’s aide. Lidia worked in Mansfield Training school and later became a home health aide and cared for people in private residences, as well as caring for the elderly in her own home. Lidia was very involved in the construction and establishment of Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Church in Willimantic. She dedicated her time to helping others learn about the scriptures and assisting in bible school/camps. She loved cooking, spending time with her family, reading, and going to church. She was a natural nurturer and true and loyal friend to anyone she knew or met. Lidia gave a lot of herself and never expected anything in return. She was very empathic and sensitive to the needs and wants of others. She raised and or adopted many of her nieces and nephews. Lidia always opened her door to anyone in need.
Lidia will be dearly missed and will always live in the hearts of everyone she knew.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 10:00am at Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Church, 61 Club Rd. Willimantic. Her burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham.
